BURNETT, BrianCanadian, born 1952

Brian Burnett has been exhibiting for 34 years. Through his early period with the Isaacs Gallery 1979 – 1989 and then with Gallery One, 1989 - 2004, Brian has displayed a sense of humour and irony in his ongoing investigation into the two-dimensional picture plane. The visceral, textured layering of paint coupled with pattern and movement have been constants through the many paintings executed by Burnett. In his most recent work Brian has brought together his passion for painting and Digital technology together, creating Digital paintings using Painter 12 software. These final works are limited edition prints on canvas, which are mounted on birch panel with an acrylic topcoat creating a simulacrum of Burnett’s own style and painting techniques. His work is featured in many collections such as American Express, City of Toronto, General Electric, Government of Ontario, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Art Gallery of Ontario, Art Gallery of Windsor, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Glenbow Museum, McLaren Art Centre and many private collections.

As an Art Instructor Brian has taught with the Toronto School of Art since 1991 and served as the school’s Director from 2000 to 2004. He currently teaches at Toronto School of Art and Centennial College and maintains a fulltime studio practice.
