SMITH, James Avon

Canadian, born Scotland, 1832 - 1918
BiographyBorn at Macduff, Banffshire, Scotland, 22rd. April, 1832. Lived in Toronto as of 1851. Died in 1918. Member of the Ontario Society of Artists since its foundation. Member of the Ontario Association of Architects, Toronto. Appointed member and treasurer of the Royal Canadian Academy by the Marquis of Lorne in 1880. Elected secretary RCA in 1887. Studied the profession of architecture with the late W. Thomas, Toronto. Received a sliver medal at the Industrial Exhibition, Toronto, for watercolour painting and another for sailing yachts, models and drawings.
