PILIS, Alexander
Canadian, born Brazil, 1954
Pilis is an associate professor at John H. Daniels, Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design, University of Toronto and lecturer at the MFA department Concordia University.
He taught at Metropolis an architectural and urbanism master program at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya and at the Master program Architecture and Urban design Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona 1999 - 2008. He is an un-disciplined and de-disciplined architectural investigator, artist and curator working under the aegis of “Architecture Parallax.” It is a methodology for discourse that in praxis poses questions, how to think, articulate, represent another ordering system not based on vision, not dependent upon this visual singularity, not based on sight as the singular verification of reality.
Pilis instigates a multi-media project exploring issues and questions regarding “the blind architect” as a critique of the modernization of vision and the collapse of the depth of field.
